Hemp matters because it offers a real, measurable way to address the climate crisis by removing carbon from the atmosphere and locking it into long-lasting materials. Hemp is one of the fastest carbon-sequestering plants available, allowing us to reduce emissions while avoiding further deforestation. When transformed into building materials like hempcrete, it creates durable, non-combustible structures that help communities better withstand a changing climate.
We prove that women-led, women-operated businesses are not only viable—they are powerful. Around the world, highly skilled women are excluded from paid work because traditional systems fail to account for unpaid caregiving, most often carried by female parents. We reject the idea that economic participation and family care must be mutually exclusive. By building a 100% women-operated production team and designing work around real lives, we demonstrate that flexibility strengthens outcomes rather than compromising them. We demonstrate a better model for sustainable, inclusive work.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the palawa people, and recognise them as the traditional owners and continuing custodians of the land and waters of this island, lutruwita (Tasmania) on which we work, grow, harvest, build, learn and live upon. We pay our deep respects to Tasmanian Aboriginal Communities, all of whom have survived invasion and dispossession, and who continue to maintain their identity and culture. Sovereignty has never been ceded. Tasmania always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
